Wind shear encounters below an altitude of 1,000 feet pose a serious threat to aircraft and may cause dangerous deviations from the intended flight path. The pilot has very little time or altitude to take evasive action. Leonardo’s low-level wind shear alert system (LLWAS) product is designed to enhance the safety, regularity and efficiency of aviation in changing wind conditions based on ground wind sensors. It combines the latest UCAR Phase-3 LLWAS technology and Leonardo system expertise to detect low-level wind shear along the runway corridor and issue timely warnings to ATC staff.
